There’s something about the way a great hotel room feels when you step inside for the first time—immediately familiar, like an invitation to flop down and stay a while. Sarah Sherman Samuel, for one, loves Detroit’s Siren Hotel: “It is a forever fave,” she notes. “Moody, layered, and full of personality.” So it’s no surprise that the queen of warm, inviting interiors took cues from such stays for her latest collaboration with Lulu and Georgia, dubbed Suite de Sarah. Spanning furniture, bedding, lighting, decor, and bathroom accessories, the designer’s new line starts at just $14 for plush washcloths and runs to $3,898 for the made-to-order platform bed.
A centerpiece of the collection is the iron and upholstered canopy bed—a style topping homeowners’ wish lists this year, according to a recent report. Samuel says she envisioned a modern reading of the traditional form, opting for a pared-back frame while exaggerating the curves of the upholstered headboard. “In my mind, it’s a little Louis XV meets Bauhaus,” she adds. Her styling rec? Keep the bedding minimal—just two pillows tucked under a coverlet. If you’re looking to customize—and create a cozy, cocooning effect—Samuel suggests hanging drapery panels.
In the bathroom, the designer divulges that she’s been using the Enzo towels for months. “They are the perfect weight,” she says. “Plush but not too plush and the contrast edge detail makes them look considered even when hanging on a hook.” As for lighting, she says she’s always seeking uniquely shaped, small-space-friendly sconces—no globe shades here. Case in point: the triangular Kolmio sconce, a favorite of hers from the collection. “I prefer wood or non-metal sconces in a bathroom because there are often already a lot of metallic finishes,” Samuel notes. “I designed the Kolmio so the bulbs are a feature.” Just the kind of touch you might appreciate in a chic hotel room.
